Invites 15 policymakers and experts in urban crisis management from ASEAN, Central Asia, and South America for training
The Busan Global City Foundation announced on the 24th that it will conduct the '2024 Busan Global Training' from May 27th to 31st to share Busan's excellent policy experiences and industrial linkage strategies in proactive response to the climate crisis.
This training session will consist of a multi-country invitational program targeting 15 urban crisis management policymakers and experts from Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Surabaya (Indonesia), Cebu (Philippines), and Bogota (Colombia).
The training program aims to address the climate change crisis faced by developing countries and to contribute to the sustainable development of cities. The global crisis situations, including not only damages caused by natural disasters but also the socio-economic losses due to rapid urbanization, are severe. In particular, in situations threatening the safety of urban residents, Busan has been strengthening its systematic disaster response efforts.
To effectively learn from Busan's policy experience and expertise, trainees will participate in field-centered expert lectures, disaster response training, and programs to derive actionable plans for applying the learned content to their own cities.
Key activities include:
Understanding Busan's integrated management of urban flooding and safety industry linkage strategies, and visiting relevant sites.
Learning about citizen education for disaster response and the English disaster alert broadcast system.
Experiencing flood situations and visiting sites for flood response.
Visiting local higher education institutions for training urban disaster response experts.
Jeon Yong-woo, CEO of the Foundation, emphasized, "The climate crisis is a common global task that requires solidarity and cooperation, and we will strengthen Busan's global leadership in proactively responding to the safety of participating cities' citizens." He added, "We will introduce Busan's safety industry sector and innovative technology applications, such as VR, to explore ways for Busan and overseas cities to coexist through ODA projects."
